On 2 April 2025, Tim Guily from the City of Leuven took part as a panelist at the Smart Region 2025 event—an inspiring gathering that brought together regional leaders, innovators, and researchers to explore the future of digital transformation across cities and communities.
During the session, Tim highlighted URBREATH as a leading initiative driving the development of Local Digital Twins (DTs) in Leuven. He shared candid insights into some of the challenges the city is currently facing in integrating digital twin technologies into broader urban planning and citizen engagement strategies.
From fragmented data streams to the complexity of aligning multiple stakeholder perspectives, Tim’s contribution underlined the real-world obstacles that cities encounter when moving from innovation to implementation.
The event provided an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of URBREATH within a wider regional innovation context, positioning it as a key element of Leuven’s ongoing efforts to build a more connected, inclusive, and resilient city.
We are proud to see URBREATH gaining visibility across a variety of platforms—not only within research and innovation networks, but also in strategic dialogues around regional development and digital futures.
Stay tuned as we continue to expand the conversation around people-centred digital innovation!
