About Us
Approach
The work of the URBREATH project is organized around eight work packages and is founded under five main phases:
- The preparation phase will define the methodology to be followed during the development of the project and will deliver the functional and technical requirements (WP2)
- The design and development phase will release the URBREATH technical framework (WP3 & WP4)
- The NBS co-creation processes phase will use the URBREATH Framework in local LLs to co-create the NBS scenarios to be implemented in the selected urban areas (WP5, WP6)
- The Knowledge co-creation and scaling phase will collect and analyze all the information, results and lessons learnt to provide actionable knowledge and recommendations (WP7)
- The Sustainable business planning phase will contribute to the dissemination and awareness creation activities, and to the exploitation strategy and business plans (WP8)
An overview of the project activities is presented as follows:
This work package provides support for the successful implementation of the project, through strong coordination and continuous monitoring and reporting.
Lead: The Lisbon Council
WP2 aims to assist in preparing URBREATH Local LLs by:
1.Developing a methodological framework and co-creation tools for use in URBREATH urban LLs,
2.Collaboratively designing transformative pathways for planning and implementation.
3.Providing use-case scenarios and baselines for social, environmental, and technical aspects in the regeneration areas.
4.Specifying technical requirements for the URBREATH platform.
Lead: Polimi
The main objectives of this WP are to introduce AI-based algorithms and tools that will support the URBREATH services, upgrade the climate adaptation platform and develop the simulation models (e.g., climate, NBS modeler), the seasonal forecasts, the data management mechanisms, and the data sharing place.
Lead: Institute of Communication and Computer Systems
This WP aims at delivering a set of tools and the URBREATH technical solution for end-users to codesign and co-create the NBS to be implemented in the city/district. The community of stakeholders (NBS experts, decision-makers, public authorities, citizens) will work together, implementing selected NBS to support the urban greening and re-naturing solutions to achieve climate neutrality.
Lead: Engineering
The work package's primary objective is to develop solutions, methods, and approaches that consider local and regional realities. The aim is to establish a dynamic process that will be assessed as impactful enough to be sustained. WP5 is a transversal work package feeding into the methods and tool development in WP2, WP3 and WP4 and ensuring an experimentation and feedback loop to improve these before scaling out in WP7.
Lead: Digital Flanders
WP6 designs, implements, and operates the four FRC pilots with the co-created NBS for greening and repurposing derelict and non-functional areas in existing urban fabric. The planning and monitoring of the pilot sites is done in a participatory manner, based on real-life data and the use of digital twins and DT based simulations of each city. Planning and monitoring tasks will make use as an input the technical WPs - WP3 and WP4.
Lead: Tallinn University of Technology
WP7 aims to gather and share knowledge created throughout the project and transfer it to project partners and partner cities through innovative methods. The objective is to equip cities with frameworks and tools for planning and financing re-naturing solutions, ensuring scalability and long-term financial sustainability through reflexive learning and applying frameworks to FRC (Front Runner Cities) and FLC (Follower Cities).
Lead: Fraunhofer
The main focus of this work package is to maximise the impact of the project by ensuring proper communication and dissemination of the project results and subsequently to raise awareness to the scientific, industrial, and general public communities.
