At the end of May 2026, the URBREATH project hosted a community engagement event in Kajaani, bringing together local residents to discuss the future of the city’s green spaces and outdoor environment.

The event provided an opportunity for residents to share their experiences, ideas, and suggestions on a range of topics affecting everyday urban life. Discussions covered the availability of waste bins, the cleanliness and maintenance of public spaces, and the overall comfort and attractiveness of parks and green areas. The conversations offered valuable insights into what local communities appreciate most about their surroundings and where they see opportunities for improvement.

Held in an open and welcoming setting, the event encouraged passers-by to stop, join the discussion, and contribute their views. This informal approach created a friendly atmosphere and enabled meaningful exchanges between the project team and local residents.

The feedback collected during the afternoon will help inform future improvements and support the development of greener, more attractive, and more enjoyable public spaces in Kajaani.

Community engagement is a key element of the URBREATH approach, ensuring that local knowledge and citizens’ perspectives are integrated into the planning and implementation of Nature-Based Solutions.
