URBREATH Workshop: The Value of Urban Nature – and How Can We Measure It?

On 26 June, stakeholders from across Denmark gathered at Dokk1 in Aarhus for an engaging workshop titled “The Value of Urban Nature – and How Can We Measure It?” Organised by the City of Aarhus and BLOXHUB, the event brought together a diverse group of professionals to explore how urban nature contributes to city life and liveability, and how its value can be better captured, quantified, and communicated.

The workshop aimed to bridge sectors and disciplines—from urban planning and public policy to academia and architecture—to explore the many ways in which nature enhances urban living. The day featured lively discussions, case studies, and collaborative brainstorming, all of which underlined the complexity and importance of integrating nature into urban environments—not as an afterthought, but as a core element of healthy, resilient cities.

Over 30 representatives from a wide range of organisations took part, reflecting a strong shared interest in rethinking how we measure and value natural assets within the urban landscape.

The conversations initiated in Aarhus mark just the beginning. There is a growing momentum to not only recognise the value of urban nature more deliberately, but to develop practical tools and frameworks that support its inclusion in planning, policy, and everyday decision-making.
